Gravity naturally pulls us down...and blood pooling tends to follow that. Pilots scheduled for afternoon and evening sorties are at a naturally higher chance of GLOC. Sitting or standing for extended periods of time causes blood and other fluids to pool in the legs, rather than move back up towards the heart. To counteract these effects, elevate your legs as high as possible 20-30 minutes before stepping for a sortie.
